Renew your Space and Spirit - - Spring Series #1

Renew your Space and Spirit - - Spring Series #1

Part of Spring: Awakening Series

With the arrival of the Spring Equinox and Ostara comes the natural urge to clear, clean and cleanse. The earth does it with wind and rain during the month of April, so that the ground is prepped and ready for the budding blooms in May.   So to can you prepare your body and mind for the coming year.  As you slowly come to life after the hibernation of winter, take steps to renew you space and spirit.  We want to shake off any lingering stagnant energy.

SPACE

Sage and smudging are a very common and very easy way to clear out dreary or negative energies in your home/office/room.  Sage comes in an incredible variety of scents, types and combinations, but the most popular is still the plain white sage bundle.  Light the end for a few seconds and then blow out the flame so that it creates smoke. Slowly move about your space, wafting the sage gently.  Get into all those dark and stuffy corners.  Open the windows and doors.  You can also get a fire-proof bowl or shell and carry it around or leave it in one place (attended) and let the smoke rise from there.

Mists and sprays are an easy and effective option as well.  Again, there are an infinite variety of room mists.  Pick a quality spray with minimal ingredients.  Palo Santo, sage and frankincense make excellent scents for clearing spaces.  Walk through the mist while you’re moving about the house.

Lighting your favorite candle also does wonders for both space and spirit.  I particularly like a wooden wick because of the delicious crackling noise it makes.

SPIRIT

Renewing your spirit requires re-discovering your joy in tiny moments.  Find what fills your cup, makes you feel alive, makes time flow, ignites that childlike joy within you.  Honesty plays an important role in this.  Let yourself enjoy without judgement.  It can be as small as watching an episode of a show you love, taking the scenic route during a drive, getting the flavored coffee instead of plain.  Read for 30 minutes before bed.  Paint your room that color you always wanted.

You make hundreds of decisions in a day.  Take a handful of the small ones and do what YOU want instead of what someone else might like.  It’s like the oxygen mask on an airplane: fulfill yourself first, and you’ll find you can be happily present for others when they need you.  When you put yourself first, everyone wins.

A refresh of space and spirit clears the path for selecting and planting the ideas and goals for the year ahead.
